Investment Environment
Highway
The total highway mileage in Foshan is 5010 km, and the
density of highways is 130.2 km per one hundred square kilometers.
Guangzhou-Zhuhai Expressway, Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Expressway,
Guangzhou-Zhaoqing Expressway, Guangzhou-Foshan Expressway,
Foshan-Kaiping Expressway and Guangzhou-Sanshui Expressway
run through the city.
Foshan has invested RMB 36 billion to construct the main
traffic network project known as “Five Verticals
going from South to North, Nine Horizontals going East
to West and Two Rings” which will link the five
districts together.. 8 among the 21 projects have been
completed and put iinto use.
Ring One Expressway with total investment of RMB 15 billion,
covering a distance of 99.2 km, has been used
by the end of 2006. Total area of it reaches 600 km2,
extending to more than 1000 km2. It is becoming an important
passageway linking five districts in Foshan as well as
Foshan and Guangzhou.
The Ring Expressway surrounding PRD, Exterior Ring Expressway
surrounding PRD, Route 1of west section of Guangzhou-Zhuhai
Expressway that are under construction will come an important
channel connecting Foshan and other cities in PRD .

Railway
Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway joins the national railway
network via Foshan. Through Train goes from Foshan to
Kowloon, Hong Kong. International freight railway runs
from Foshan to Manchuria, so cargos in the city can be
delivered to Russia and Non-Soviet Commonwealth countries.
Guangzhou-Foshan Metro, the first intercity traffic project
in China, is currently under construction, which is estimated
to be completed by 2010. It will bring much convenience
to people living in Guangzhou and Foshan.
So far, Guangzhu (Guangzhou-Zhuhai) intercity rail project
has initiated, which is estimated to be completed by 2009.
Total length of this railway is 143.7 km, which will connect
Guangzhou, Foshan, Jiangmen, Zhongshan and Zhuhai. Maximum
mph of this railway will reach 200km, and it will take
only 47 minutes to travel from Zhuhai to Guangzhou.
Port
Foshan has 17 exporting transports. Among them, there
are 4 passenger transports (Shunde Port, Nanhai Port,
Gaoming Port and Foshan Railway Station) and 11 container
terminals.
The annual port freightage of Foshan is 39.51 million
tons. Cargoes can be delivered from Foshan to foreign
countries via Hong Kong or via Guangzhou Nansha Port,
Huangpu Port and Shenzhen Yantian Port by ocean-going
vessels. Logistic giants as Maersk, Hutchison Whampoa
from Hong Kong, DHL and Keppel from Singapore have their
operations in Foshan.

Transportation by Air
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is located in the
north of Guangzhou. It is only 35 minutes’ drive
Foshan to the Airport via expressway. Guangzhou Baiyun
International Airport covers an area of 15 km2, of which,
the area of 1st phase of terminal one building is 300,000m2.
The Airport has two 3800-meter runways and two 3600-meter
runways. The annual passenger throughput and cargo throughput
of the airport is respectively 25 million people and 1
million tons. It has 77 domestic flights and 22 international
flights.
Asia-pacific Transportation Center to be established
at Guangzhou New Baiyun Airport with total amount of RMB
1.5 billion invested by Federal Express from U.S.A covers
an area of 63 hektares. Its sorting capacity will be up
to 24000 packages per hour and it will have 228 cargo
flights every week. The Center will be formally put into
service by 2008.
Power Supply
The energy supply in Foshan is being kept improving. In
2006, the total power supply volume in Foshan was 34.798
billion kilowatts per hour. Owing to the leaning attention
paid to the construction of power supply and electric
power transmission network, Foshan has always been regarded
one of the regions with stable power supply in China.
It can also provide the foreign-invested enterprises with
stable electricity supply.
In order to accommodate its economic development, Foshan
is planning to construct a modern power network with a
total investment of RMB 15 billion in the next five years,
so as to further increase the capacity of its power supply.
This network includes two projects of 500 KV, 17 projects
of 220 KV and 52 projects of 110KV. What’s more,
6 large-scale power supply projects with added installed
capacity of 2.028 million KV will be built.
LNG Supply Program
Foshan is planning to construct a LNG project with annual
capacity of 2 million ton. LNG has put into commercial use since 2006.
Water Supply
The two main streams of Pearl River water system, Xijiang
Stream and Beijinag Stream has provided Foshan with abundant
water resources and sufficient supply of fresh water.
Foshan has always been laying emphasis on environmental
protection as well as the construction of sewage treatment
plants in its urban districts and towns. So far, 16 wastewater
treatment systems with daily disposal capacity of 700,000
tons sewage water have been established.
Human Resources
Breif of Talent Resources
Foshan has always been actively implementing the strategy
of obtaining economic development by talents, so as to
bring their potentials into full play. Currently, there
are 7 regular high-education institutes and 6 adult high-education
institutes, with 38000 enrolled students and 8500 graduates.
Furthermore, branch schools established by colleges and
universities from other places nationwide which include
Nanhai School of South China Normal University, Northeast
University Neusoft Institute of Information, Zhongkai
University of Agriculture and Technology, Guangdong Industry
Technical College and Sanshui School of Guangdong University
of Business Studies. In 1995, Foshan took the lead among
the local cities in China in establishing workstation
for post-doctors working in enterprises. Currently, there
are all together 11 post-doctor workstations in Foshan
City. The number of talents in Foshan has increased to
550,000 . As required by the industrial development, Foshan
Municipal Government lays emphasis on the vocational education
all the time. So far, 39 middle vocational technical schools,
39 adult vocational technical schools and 2 institutes
of science and technology have been established. In 2005,
the number of students enrolled in middle vocational technical
schools and institutes of science and technology was up
to 48900 and 12000 respectively. Furthermore, more than
300,000 people received various vocational trainings in
the same year.
Foshan is a city which takes the developed manufacturing
industry as its pillar industry. It has many manufacturers
with high reputation all over the country, and is adjacent
to Guangzhou where intelligent resources concentrate.
There are all together 53 normal institutes of high learning
with 482,800 enrolled student in Guangzhou Region. All
of these universities and colleges are complete in course
setting. Furthermore, 200 middle vocational technical
schools with approximately 216,000 enrolled students in
Guangzhou are capable of employees with basic technical
knowledge. The relatively low living cost in Foshan has
always been attractive to talents. Many talents go to
Foshan to strive for development every year. Enterprises
invested in Foshan will enjoy a favorable condition in
recruiting talents with good command of foreign language
and technical skills from other places in the country.
Industrial Park
Foshan has numerous national and provincial industrial
parks approved by the State. These industrial parks have
such features as beautiful environment, convenient transportation,
perfect supporting facilities and diversified industrial
development, which are capable of providing all-around
and high quality services for foreign investors. Foshan
has 6 key science and technology industrial parks with
2829 registered enterprises. The gross value of industrial
output realized by the industrial parks and bases reaches
RMB 230 billion.
